Transgender Treatment Regret Numbers Are Low, Less Than One Percent Regret Transitioning
Less than one percent of transgender people who undergo gender-affirming procedures expressed regret, according to a new search study.
Many states are considering limits or outright bans on gender-affirming medical procedures because United States lawmakers claim that young people could regret irreversible body-altering treatments.
AP News reports that despite the fact that lawmakers are worried about transitioning regret, only one percent of the trans community that undergoes gender-affirming procedures regret the decision.
Before transgender people begin treatment, they must go through psychological assessments to confirm they suffer from gender dysphoria. After their psychological assessment concludes they have gender dysphoria, the first treatment is puberty-blocking medication to pause sexual development temporarily.
This will give the child time to mature physically and emotionally enough to make an informed decision about whether they want to transition.
