A liberal transgender pastor compared the Nashville shooter Audrey Hale to Jesus being betrayed by his followers and hung on a cross less than a week after the school shooting that claimed six lives.

Fox News reports that Micah Louwagie, pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota, shocked his audience when he compared the Nashville shooting to the crucifixion of Jesus during his Easter sermon on April 2.

“Instead of focusing on ways this could’ve been prevented, such as gun control, a significant number of people have turned their attention to the shooter’s identity,” the pastor preached to his congregation. “Some folks have tried to focus on eradicating trans people as a solution because they have been waiting, just waiting for an opportunity such as this. They’ve been waiting for a reason, any reason to stoke their hatred.”

The pastor goes on to say that Jesus’ allies abandoned him in his hour of need and betrayed him, much like the media’s attack on trans people following the Nashville shooting.
