Netflix dropped the new season of Monster, and this time, Lyle and Erik Menendez’s story comes to life. Ryan Murphy, known for pushing boundaries in television, portrayed the brothers as cold-blooded killers.

On August 20, 1989, KTLA reported that Lyle and Erik shot their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, after enduring years of abuse. They suffered unimaginable abuse, physical, emotional, and sexual.

The boys claim their father started abusing them as young children. Erik said in the trial in the 90s that the abuse began around the age of six. Lyle recounts the abuse starting at about the same time for him.

In August of 1989, Erik told his brother the abuse was still occurring and that he needed help. They felt powerless on how to make it stop. Their dad told them no one would believe them. He bragged that he had painted them as emotionally damaged liars, his safeguard so no one would ever believe their shocking claims.
