Suddenly, everyone is talking about how effective Wegovy and Ozempic are for weight loss. It’s all over social media and television commercials. But The Atlantic reports that Wegovy will soon receive competition as the top obesity medication. The best part is the market will then have several drugs to choose from, which should make the medicine more affordable.

Semaglutide, sold under Ozempic and Wegovy, is far from perfect. The drug offers dramatic results for many users. Still, it comes with unpleasant side effects for 20 percent of those taking the medicine. Users can experience nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation, and fatigue. For many, the side effects only last a few weeks.

Another drawback to Ozempic is the price. Many insurances don’t cover obesity medications, leaving patients to pay out of pocket. Nationally, Wegovy/Ozempic can cost up to 1,500 a month. But that should all change in the next few years.
