Moses Is Considered A Prophet, But Theologians Believe He Was Mentally Ill
Theologians claim that Moses was not a prophet. Instead, they claim he suffered from mental illness.
Everyone knows the story of Moses in the Bible. His mother put him in a basket, and the King’s daughter found him. She decided to raise him as her own. He discovered he was Jewish and embarked on the journey to free his people.
After he led the Jewish people to the promised land after allegedly parting the Red Sea, God gave him a set of rules to live by. We call those rules the Ten Commandments. However, theologians claim that Moses was not a prophet. Instead, they claim he suffered from mental illness.
“Mood disorder-associated psychoses remain quite viable in the case of Moses,” Psychiatry Online reports. “Reasonable diagnostic alternatives might include PD NOS, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. If the first five books of the Bible are credited to Moses’ authorship, then a bipolar disorder or perhaps schizoaffective disorder would be more compatible with his writing abilities.”
