If Congress approves the newly introduced bill, Kansans may soon have another incentive to have children. KSN reports that Senate Bill 436 was introduced to the Committee of Assessment and Taxation to establish a child credit in Kansas on the state level.

This wouldn’t affect the 2023 tax year, but if it passes, it would affect the 2024 tax year. The amount the taxpayers would receive would depend on their income and the number of children they claim on their state income taxes.

According to the bill, married individuals would get the whole tax credit. In contrast, single taxpayers would get half of the child credit. These credits would primarily aimed at benefiting low-income parents.

Taxpayers with incomes under $25,000 could receive $600 per child. The amounts go down from there. If your income is over $350,000 a year, the credit would be $25 per child.

For taxpayers to qualify for the child credit, the child must have a relationship with the parent, live in the same household (at least half the time), and be under 18.
