K-9 Cop Conducted An ‘Air Sniff’ Search, Found 20 Pounds of Meth — Suspect In Custody

A K-9 officer with the Meade County Sheriff’s Office uncovered 20 pounds of methamphetamine (commonly called meth) during a search outside the Meade County Courthouse. KWCH reports that Zero, the K-9 cop, conducted an “air sniff” search, locating 20 pounds of drugs in the suspect’s car.

The suspect was appearing in court on an unrelated charge. He parked his car legally. It isn’t clear why law enforcement searched his vehicle at the time. But they did a free air sniff search, to which Zero determined there was a presence of drugs in the car.

Wikipedia states that dog-sniff searches (K-9) do not constitute a search or seizure under the Fourth Amendment as long as the canine is lawfully present and the conduct is proper. In this instance, police did a sniff test outside the vehicle without opening the car until the dog determined there were drugs inside.

Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, and they found nearly 20 pounds of drugs, KSN reports. The suspect is still in…
