I do not agree that grief can be a painless process. My grandma, the woman who raised me, died 11 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her or think of her. I cry often. Have a moved forward? Maybe a little, but not much.
My live-in boyfriend died in 2018. I rarely think of him, and haven't cried about the loss since 2018. I completely moved forward.
So, for my grandmother's death, the grief IS my destination. I'm happy to grieve her, that means her life mattered to me. As for my live -in boyfriend, it was a journey and I'm over it.
Grief is the price we pay when we love others. There's no shortcut to feeling better. There will be good day and bad ones.
