I Asked My Kids What They Liked About Me — Their Answers Shocked Me

I get hung up on my flaws so much that I forget to focus on my strengths.

I struggle with my self-esteem often. Like many people, I struggle to see my strengths and only see my flaws. I usually concentrate on my weight (30–40 lbs overweight) or other obvious physical flaws.

I decided to ask my 12, 14, and 15-year-old teens what they liked about me, and their answers shocked me. It proved to me that others probably do not notice all the flaws I see in myself.

My 12-year-old daughter (Liv) said she loves my blue eyes. They are beautiful and tell stories. Apparently, she can tell if I am happy, sad, or angry by my eyes. She also said she loves how I do my makeup and hair. She said I’m funny and always come up with the best zingers when joking around with her brothers. She said that all her friends say she has a pretty mom.

Charlie, my 14-year-old, said I am smart. It always surprises him how much I know about so many subjects. He said that he loves watching TV with me and cooking with me. He said he’s happiest when we are together.

My 15-year-old (John) could have been more descriptive but still gave me an answer. He said that he loves me because I am his mom. He knows I love him and will do whatever I can for him. He said his…
