Female Teacher Fired After Saying ‘Good Afternoon, Girls’ To Class, Forced To Apologize To Transgender Students
The school updated its gender identity policy (after the teacher’s firing) to ban applications from students who identify as transgender or nonbinary.
A teacher in the United Kingdom faced backlash after allegedly “misgendered” her 11-year-old students by saying, “Good afternoon, girls,” at the beginning of a lesson. Fox News reports the school forced the teacher to apologize to the students for misgendering them. She found out days later that she was out of a job.
Some students told the teacher that not everyone in the class identifies as female. Some of the class members were nonbinary, while others were transgender. They wrote their preferred pronouns down for the teacher, so she could avoid making a mistake in the future.
The teacher informed her students if their pronouns differed from their biological sex, she would need to speak to their parents before using the pronoun in class.
