District Attorney Responds To Erik And Lyle Menendez’s Request For A New Hearing
Brothers’ Attorney Is ‘Hopeful’
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office responded to Erik and Lyle Menendez’s request for a new hearing to disclose new evidence that proves the brothers’ claims of child abuse. Newsnation reports that the DA’s office is taking the motion “very seriously” and will give their recommendation within 90 days.
Menendez brothers’ attorneys Mark Geragos and Cliff Gardner said they are cautiously optimistic about Erik and Lyle getting a “real shot” at freedom. They think the new evidence is compelling and proves their father, Jose Menendez, did, in fact, assault his sons.
Eric and Lyle Menendez admitted they gunned down their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. In their first trial, they claimed their father abused them. Their mother reportedly knew about the abuse and did nothing to protect them. The jury couldn’t agree on a verdict, resulting in a hung jury.
